Pop-ups: Culture Curve – Dynamic Shift

Event Date: 24 Feb - 16 Mar, 5.30 - 10.30pm

Aldersgate Street, opposite Barbican Tube Station

A visual delight for the corner of Aldersgate Street and Beech Street – a dynamic response between people and architecture at this confluence of paths.

A temporary installation, Dynamic Shift transforms the curved façade of the Barbican into a responsive, visual, display of colour and movement. It is the confluence of people in the area that creates the artwork itself, with the movement of workers, residents and visitors through Culture Mile triggering the display. The visuals are generated by the rhythmic sounds at five locations in Culture Mile which demonstrate the constant ebb and flow of activity each evening in Culture Mile. Dynamic Shift creates a visual symphony for Aldersgate Street, and suggests the creative delights behind the brutalist walls.

At the installation, tweet #CultureCurve and see how the installation responds.

Culture curve: Dynamic Shift is conceived by award-winning video artist, Nina Dunn, in collaboration with Culture Mile. For this project, Nina joined forces with a regular collaborator, the Tony Nominated sound designer, Sebastian Frost. They both work internationally across theatre, opera, dance, live events and immersive shows and previous work together includes the celebrated Cosmic Architecture at Durham Lumiere 2017 and Olivier nominated Alice’s Adventures Underground at The Vaults for which Nina won a Knight of Illumination Award.

The team are supported by Lucy Ockenden from This World Productions who was the Digital Production Manager for the 2017 Manchester international Festival and systems engineer and programmer for Björk and the forthcoming Harry Styles tour with additional technical support by Bluman Associates.
