What will Culture Mile look like in the future

Over the past 18 months, Culture Mile has been working on a ‘Look and Feel’ strategy which outlines a vision for the future of Culture Mile and the projects that will help transform the area.

The key recommendations include the essential improvement of Beech Street, new public space around the new Museum of London at West Smithfield, making Moor Lane an urban oasis where visitors can pause and relax and the proposed Centre for Music.

During the next 2 – 3 years, there will also be a number of enhancements to the area including temporary art installations, increased greenery throughout the area and better, clearer signs that will provide more navigation options for visitors.

Catherine McGuinness, Policy Chairman at the City of London Corporation, said: “These plans are an essential step towards realising the physical transformation of Culture Mile. The area is currently dominated by vehicles and perceived by many to be hard to reach and difficult to navigate. These proposals set out an ambitious and exciting vision for the area which will create an unrivalled visitor experience, a welcoming environment for everyone to enjoy and a place where culture and learning are both created and consumed.”
