Barbican & Community Libraries

Artizan Street Library and Community Centre

With a collection of over 20,000 Books, CDs, DVDs, maps, audio books, and children's books, as well as free computers and wifi, there's something for everyone.

Children under five can enjoy regular rhymetime, storytime, stay and play, messy play, and baby bounce sessions. The Read to Succeed scheme along with Barbican Children's Library supports children aged 5-14 to improve their literacy with the support of trained volunteers. For adults, there are health, well-being, and exercise classes to help keep active.

Barbican Library

The Barbican Library is a vibrant public library in the heart of the Barbican Centre with books, spoken word recordings, DVDs, CDs and scores available for loan to all visitors.

Within the Barbican Library, located on Level 2 within the Barbican, you will also find the Barbican Music Library and Barbican Children's Library, along with places to sit, read and work. There are also financial sections as well as Internet access and self-service photocopying.

The library has an active  events programme which includes literature events and monthly art, music, and cultural exhibitions. There are informal reading groups, conversation clubs for English learners, and a games club.

The Library provides  project loan collections to local schools.

Barbican Children's Library

A wide range of books for children of all ages, storytimes, rhymetimes, and events and activities for children, young adults, and families.

Children under five can enjoy regular rhymetime, storytime, stay and play, messy play, and baby bounce sessions. Children of all ages can join in with regular arts, games, and puzzle clubs. The Read to Succeed scheme along with Artizan Street Library supports children aged 5-14 to improve their literacy with the support of trained volunteers.

Barbican Music Library

The largest collection of CDs in a London public library, with listening booths, electronic pianos, scores, and sheet music & books for hire. The Music Library stocks CDs of unsigned London-based artists, and also hosts the reference-only Gilbert and Sullivan Society collection.

Shoe Lane Library

A great range of books, CDs, DVDs, audiobooks, and language sets, as well as free computers and wifi.
