The London Metropolitan Archives (LMA) is home to an unparalleled range of documents, maps, prints, drawings, plans, photographs and films detailing the change and continuity of London and Londoners. The collections cover the whole of Greater London, spanning nearly 1,000 years of history making it the largest local authority archive in Britain.
The LMA is committed to increase the awareness of archives and their potential for education, in an environment of collaboration, learning and fun. The LMA provides an exciting range of free workshops suitable for Key Stages 1 to 4 and sixth form students, each tailored to suit a broad range of topics, including history, science and literacy following closely with education standards such as the National Curriculum.
LMA staff can develop activities which can be a single visit, a whole day’s activity, or full term’s project. The immediacy of working with the archive and hands-on sessions with the resources offers a unique way of bringing the past to life.
