Immerse your students in art and history with a visit to Guildhall Art Gallery and London’s Roman Amphitheatre. The Art Gallery holds works dating from 1670 to the present including 17th-century portraits, Pre-Raphaelite masterpieces, and a range of paintings documenting London’s dramatic history, as well as the ruins of London’s 2,000- year-old Roman Amphitheatre.
A visit to Guildhall Art Gallery will immerse students in art and the history of London. The Gallery runs a diverse programme of workshops in Art, History, citizenship and literacy for key stages 1 to 4. Schools and groups can book bespoke facilitated learning tours of the Art Gallery and/or Amphitheatre with one of the experienced Education Officers. Students are encouraged to use questioning to help them discover the highlights of the collection and the history of the site. These tours can be tailored to the student’s current scheme of work, and are facilitated by a trained archaeologist or art historian.
Offering a diverse programme of curriculum linked workshops and tours for Key Stages 1 to 5, pupils can take a tour of the Amphitheatre with an archaeologist, handle genuine Roman artefacts, or decode Victorian masterpieces.
Free downloadable resources have also been developed, linked to the National Curriculum, to support self-guided visits.
