Located in the heart of the City of London, the museum tells the story of the Bank from its foundation in 1694 to its role today to maintain UK monetary and financial stability.
In the museum you can learn about how banknotes are designed and printed. Take the helm of the monetary policy boat and find out about the Bank’s work in keeping prices low and stable. Discover how they ensure that the financial system is safe and sound. You can also pick up a gold bar and discover why the Bank’s building is on top of one the world's largest stores of gold.
Navigate the history of financial storms from the 17th century to the present day. Take a look at our unique collections on display from a £1 million note to the 1797 cartoon of the Old Lady of Threadneedle Street.
Free talks and presentations at the museum are available for Key Stages 2, 3 and 4 and 16+, which can cover topics ranging from English, Maths, History, and Citizenship, to Economics and Business Studies.
