Who we are

Culture Mile

Culture Mile is a partnership of four leading UK arts, culture and learning institutions led by the City of London Corporation. Below you can read more about each of the core partners and Culture Mile’s growing network of wider partners.

City of London Corporation

The City of London Corporation provides local government and policing services for the financial and commercial heart of Britain, the 'Square Mile'. In addition, the City Corporation has three roles:

We support London’s communities by working in partnership with neighbouring boroughs on economic regeneration, education and skills. In addition, the City of London Corporation’s charitable funder, City Bridge Trust, makes grants of around £20 million annually to tackle disadvantage across London.

We also help look after key London heritage and green spaces including Tower Bridge, the Museum of London, Barbican Arts Centre, City gardens, Hampstead Heath, Epping Forest, Burnham Beeches, and important commons in London.

We also support and promote the ‘City’ as a world-leading financial and business hub, with outward and inward business delegations, high-profile civic events and research-driven policies, all reflecting a long-term approach.

Barbican

The Barbican presents an ambitious, international programme that crosses art forms, with outstanding artists and performers, excelling at projects that hover on the edge of classification. Investing in the artists of today and tomorrow through the commissioning of new work and showcasing emerging talent we hope to inspire more people to discover and love the arts.

London Symphony Orchestra

The London Symphony Orchestra was established in 1904 as a musical collective built on artistic ownership and partnership. The permanent resident orchestra at the Barbican, it gives 120 concerts internationally, reaches a global audience of 23.4 million, and through LSO Discovery offers musical experiences to 60,000 people every year.

Guildhall School

Twice-rated No.1 specialist institution in the UK by the Guardian University Guide, the Guildhall School of Music & Drama is one of the world's leading conservatoires and drama schools, offering musicians, actors, stage managers and theatre technicians an inspiring environment in which to develop as artists and professionals.

Museum of London

The Museum of London tells the story of this great world city and its people. From Roman Londinium and the Great Fire to the Suffragettes’ struggle and the swinging 60’s, it’s all here under one roof.

Culture Mile Network

Over the coming months Culture Mile will develop an extensive network of organisations in and around the area which will play a critical role in realising the ambitions of Culture Mile, alongside the five core partners. These organisations represent the changing face of the City of London and share the commitment to transform the area.

The following organisations have already agreed to join the network at the beginning of its journey and the group will continue to grow over the coming months.
